Mail List Requirements
Ideally your mail list should be stored on database or spreadsheet software such as Access or
Excel.
If your mail list is stored within your accounting software, please follow your software’s instructions to import to Excel; or import the data into Excel as a text file that is ASCII delimited.
Files can be sent by e-mail (maillist@crowriverpress.com) or brought in on flash drive. If you e-mail the list, please include specific information about the file as well as identifying the matching job that will be mailed. Let us know if you would like us to use our postal permit and if you have special postal status such as non-profit. Good communication up front means no delays in your job hitting the mail exactly on the day you specify!
Your list will be automatically be cleansed of duplicates and run through US Postal Service National Change of Address (a requirement of the postal service).
If you do not have a current list, please provide us with your target audience, geographical requirements, etc. and we can find a list that meets your specific needs.
Please call Mark at 320/234-5701 with any questions before you send your list.
Digital File Requirements
Our Prepress Department supports the following software:
- Adobe InDesign
- Adobe Photoshop
- Adobe Illustrator
- Adobe Acrobat
- Quark XPress
- Publisher
Your files should be built to the final trim size. If your project requires a bleed, please add .125 inch on ALL edges.
- All files, including graphics, should be CMYK or grayscale (not RGB.)
- Resolution of halftone images should be 300 dpi. Submitting files with a lower resolution can make the printed image look pixelated and blurry. GIF, WMF and PNG images are generally not high enough resolution for print. TIF, EPS and JPG images are recommended. Keep in mind that images that start off as 300 dpi and are enlarged will have a lower resolution. For line art, 600 dpi is recommended.
- A Press-Ready PDF of your project is the preferred file format and will be the most cost-effective for you. When building a PDF from your layout, use the “Press Quality” default settings in Acrobat.
- If you submit a native file rather than a pdf, you must include all fonts and images used in the layout. Both Quark Xpress and InDesign have “Collect for Output” or “Package” options that will gather all necessary information for you.
How to send press-ready files
Files can be sent by e-mail (prepress@crowriverpress.com) or submitted on flash drive or CD. Large files can be uploaded to our FTP site. Please call Kathy at 320/234-5717 or Joan at 320-234-5710 for specific FTP instructions. If you need FTP software, we recommend Transmit for Mac.
Portable media: If you submit your files on a flash drive or CD, please be sure to label it with company name and contact person so we can be sure it gets returned to the right person. Also provide a hard copy, paper printout of your file, as well as any job specifications.
E-mail: We can accept e-mail attachments up to 10 MB. Please compress your files in a folder using Stuffit or WinZip before e-mailing. In your e-mail message, please include all job information and specify what software you used: InDesign, Quark, Illustrator, etc
FTP site: If you upload a file to the FTP site, please follow up with an email or fax containing the job specifications and call Kathy or Joan to let them know you are uploading a file. Good communication up front means no delays in production and turn time for your job!
